Kākā Guitār is a guitar tuition service that gives students the tools and experience to explore musical landscapes to find their musical voice. Kākā Guitār tuition locations are from St Anne’s Anglican Church (the church’s exclusive music tuition service), St Benedict’s School and Makara Model School.
There are two styles of lessons: group lessons and private lessons. Group lessons will teach students the general foundations to have fun playing the guitar by themselves and with others. Private lessons are tailored to the student and their goals. These goals range from learning a certain song, a specific technique, gaining a classical guitar Trinity College London certificate, or exploring a particular genre like rock, jazz, pop, etc.
Kākā Guitār provides performance opportunities for students to develop performance skills and build their character. These concerts are held at the end of each term along with other ‘Show and Play’ practise performances during the term.
Directed by classically trained guitarist Jake Church (MMA), the curriculum focuses on developing students with modern guitar skills and philosophical foundations through a holistic learning approach.

Hungry for guitar…
Instruments: It is highly recommended that students have their own instrument in order to practise at home. Kākā Guitār recommends Alistair’s Music on Cuba Street.
Alistair’s Music provides a ‘buy-back’ plan on entry level instruments. For more information about their products you can talk to us or contact Alistair’s directly. Most of the general tools can purchased through Alistair’s Musical well.
Other music stores like Music Works, Music Planet, The Rockshop, and Music Warehouse are other great options as well as have online stores.
General tools: (1) Tuner and metronome; I suggest a physical clip-on-tuner and download “ProMetronome” — or download the “Pano Tuner” — these are available as hardware or on app stores in both free or payment options; (2) Music stand; (3) Foot stool (for classical guitar posture); (4) Writing - pencils, and manuscript; (5) Music storage – for paper student will need a clear-file, and for digital use apps like ForScore app (iPad), MuseScore (Android), or PDF (laptop/desktop); (6) Playback and Composition — Sibelius First (iPad) and Music Speed Changer (iPad/Android).
